Community Health Support: Community Care Initiative:Sponsoring Surgical Treatment for Children in Need

Patient Chandan Kumar, 8 year old boy, was brought to ENT OPD with complaints of recurrent nasal obstruction and nasal discharge since 1 year. On examination he was found to have Adenoid hypertrophy with Chronic tonsillitis.

The boy studies in a small village in Bihar, and was brought to Ludhiana specifically for treatment of his symptoms. He was managed on nasal spray and oral medications, however the symptoms were persisting inspite of treatment for 2 months, following which he was advised surgery to remove the problematic adenoid and tonsils.

The boy’s father is a daily wage labourer and mother is a house wife. Their monthly income is only Rs 12,000/-. The father is the only earning member of the family to support a family of 4 and parents back in the village.

The father had struggled in making arrangements for the cost of the surgery. Thus, we contacted the Vardhman group, who promptly replied to our request and came forward with generous donations for the patient in need, and the surgery for the boy could be planned.

Chandan underwent Endoscopic adenoid curettage with bilateral tonsillectomy under general anesthesia on 20.12.2019. During surgery, the adenoid tissue and both sides of tonsils were removed. We would like to thank the Vardhman Group for their generous support in treatment of the child.

The boy is doing well after surgery and is planned for discharge on 22.12.2019. Follow-up is planned after 1 week.
